About Rosie Vassallo
I grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and later earned a degree in Advertising Design from TCU. My passion for art began early—back in the sixth grade, my drawings were selected for display at the San Antonio Municipal Auditorium, which was a proud moment that sparked my love for creativity. That passion only grew stronger as I took my first formal art classes at TCU, where I immersed myself in the university’s vibrant art scene. Competing in art shows, I was fortunate to win several awards, which solidified my commitment to honing my craft.
I paint using a realist approach, aiming for my artwork to closely resemble the subject in every detail. I want my clients to immediately recognize the precision and lifelike quality of each piece. Vibrant, bold colors are a hallmark of my work, and my ultimate goal is to ensure that every customer is completely satisfied with the final result.
When people stop by to watch me paint, they often do a double take when they realize I’m painting my subject upside down. This technique, which I learned in college, helps me focus on the finer details by allowing me to paint exactly what I see rather than what I think it should look like. It’s always fun to flip the painting right-side up afterward and see just how accurately the image has come together.
I aspire to be remembered as a Mississippi artist whose work resonates throughout the state. My original artwork has been transformed into prints, and I envision them adorning the walls of homes across Mississippi, bringing a piece of our vibrant culture and landscape into every living space.
Additionally, I received the prestigious Cash Award of the Eleanor Onderdonk Memorial Award at the San Antonio Art League exhibition, a highly competitive event where only seventeen cash prizes were awarded out of more than 1,000 entries. My artistic excellence has also been recognized with First Place awards in both watercolor and oil mediums across several states, including Kentucky, New Jersey, Tennessee, and Texas.
